Brandi Chastain is one of today's most prolific and famous female athletes. Brandi became a part of history as she joined the U.S. Women's Soccer Team and competed in the first-ever World Championship. In 1996 she led the United States to a Gold Medal at the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, a feat she repeated in 2004 in Athens, Greece.

Brandi has excelled for the past 15 years as being the most famous female soccer player and perhaps famous female athlete in the world. She has been featured around the world as a spokesperson for Nike, Volvo, Powerbar, Gallery Furniture and 24-Hour Fitness, among others.

Her book, released in 2004, It's Not About the Bra: How to Play Hard, Play Fair and Put the Fun Back into Competitive Sport brings a timely message about rediscovering our respect for the game, for our teammates and adversaries, for coaches and refs, and especially for the players themselves. "Because, without these values, the game breaks down and the joys of competition are lost." When Brandi famously stripped off her jersey to celebrate her World Cup winning penalty kick, the gesture represented not only the essence of athletic triumph but the joy of a competitor who knows how to play hard and still have fun.

Her first national team appearance was on June 1, 1988, in a game against Japan. She scored her first goal on April 18, 1991, in a game against Mexico. She was a member of the gold medal winning U.S. Women's National Team at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. She started and played every minute of the USA's five matches at the 1996 Olympic Games. She began training with the national team in September 1995, after spending two years away from the program. She played with the 1993 U.S. women's team, and the team became the champions of the CONCACAF Championship in New York. She also played for the gold medal winning West Team at the 1993 U.S. Olympic Festival in San Antonio, Texas. She was a member of the U.S. Women's National Team that won the first FIFA Women's World Championship in China in November. She scored five consecutive goals in the USA's 12-0 victory over Mexico in CONCACAF, qualifying for the first-ever women's world championship, and these were her first international goals. She finished the CONCACAF tournament with seven gals.

Brandi Chastain played professionally in Japan for Skiroki Serena for one season, where she was named the team's MVP and was they only foreigner to be selected as one of the league's top 11 players in 1993.

She led the Santa Clara Broncos to two Final Four appearances while at Santa Clara University where she graduated in 1990. She was the 1990 Hermann Award Winner (the college soccer league's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy). She was named first-team All-American in 1990, and All-Far West in 1989 with Santa Clara. She attended the University of California-Berkeley in 1986, earning Soccer America Freshman Player of the Year honors in 1986 where she teamed with U.S. women's team member Joy Fawcett. She sat out the 1987 and 1988 seasons after having anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery on both of her knees before transferring to Santa Clara for her final two seasons. She scored 32 goals and added eight assist in three years of college. She attended Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, where she led the team to three straight championships.

Brandi Chastain resides in Santa Clara with her husband, Santa Clara head coach, Jerry Smith and his teenage son, Cameron.
