Charlie Rose
Credited with creating "the last refuge of intelligent conversation on television," Rose and his popular PBS program illuminate the personalities and events that define our society. Also a correspondent for 60 Minutes II, he brings his relentless curiosity and penetrating insight to the podium as the ideal moderator or insightful commentator on politics and culture.
Charlie Rose, Emmy Award-winning journalist, has been praised as "one of America's premier interviewers". He is the host of "Charlie Rose", the nightly PBS program that engages America's best thinkers, writers, politicians, athletes, entertainers, business leaders, scientists and other newsmakers.
Charlie Rose is unique. The round oak table and the black backdrop provide an intimate atmosphere for showcasing smart conversation. "His table has become an island where savvy channel-surfers put ashore each weeknight" (Esquire). His show has become "the last refuge of intelligent conversation on television" according to Journalist Morley Safer of CBS "60 Minutes".
The hour-long CHARLIE ROSE, which debuted in 1991 and gained national syndication in 1993, is broadcast five nights a week. Its guests have included heads of state and other people who have won renown in the fields of politics, literature, the visual and performing arts, science, or sports, as well as lesser-known figures, each of whom, in Rose's opinion, has "a great story to tell". In addition to hosting the show, Rose has served as its executive editor and , for most of its existence, executive producer as well.
His guests have ranged from actors Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts to international statesmen Nelson Mandela and Mikhail Gorbachev to Nobel laureates Toni Morrison and Seamus Heancy, to business leaders Bill Gates and Andy Grove and musicians Bruce Springsteen and Yo-Yo Ma. His program serves as a window on cultural areas rarely seen on TV as architecture, painting, photography and classical music.
"Charlie Rose Special Edition" presents hour-long profiles on such prominent entertainers as Meryl Streep and Garth Brooks as well as week-long specials on the cutting edge of science like the Human Genome Project.
His series "Great Masters" takes an in-depth look at artists' biographies as well as the artists' visual presentations of their art. All specials are produced by Charlierose.com, Inc. which also presents other programs in multi-media formats.
Rose was also a correspondent for "60 Minutes II", the CBS news magazine program which aired from 1999 to 2005. Its last broadcast was on September 2, 2005.
