The Human Herd: Neuroscience Connects Us to Each Other

  • Three hour seminar on "The Human Herd"
  • Two day seminar or weekend offsite on "The Human Herd and Being a Leader"
  • Week-long seminar on "The Human Herd and Reinventing Your Company Culture"

For centuries, humans have described the experiences of existence - sadness, joy, anger, fear, hope, love - as being part of a particular organ in the body. In poetry, in music, in literature, we describe these emotional experiences as being part of the heart. But, we now know the actual truth from neuroscience - life's experiences are centered in the brain. Like every other species on earth, the human brain is wired to make us aware of others in our species, and to care for others in our species.

This is not the standard presentation on EQ; rather, it is an exploration of the ways in which we have learned to ignore our emotional awareness and how to rediscover the disengaged parts of our neurology to make us reunited as a human herd. This applies not only to our interactions with customers, clients, or patients, but even more so to our workplace interactions with our colleagues. Dr. Rao will offer a radical and transformational way of viewing our connectedness to each other.

Dr. Rao's goal is to create for every seminar participant a sense of "vuja de". Everyone knows what déjà vu is - it is the sense that you come to a new place but feel like you've seen it before. The opposite, vuja de, is to have you look at places (and people) that you've seen a thousand times before, but feel like it is for the very first time once you've been given a new set of "eyes" from which to see your role as a leader and a fellow member of the human species

Get On the Same Page Now

  • Half-day and full-day programs for corporate audiences
  • Full day and weekend programs for human resources, coaching, and therapy professionals

When organizations become unable to communicate internally, problems emerge in product quality, innovation, decision making, talent development, and a variety of other group functions.

Social neuroscience explains how the brain processes information from others, combines it with our internal state, and forms our responses. Collaboration is a neurological phenomena. This includes enhanced interpersonal actions as well as formal practices such as knowledge management and decision making rigor. The amygdala, orbitofrontal cortex, and areas of the parietal and temporal lobes allow the species to work in groups in order to survive. Without collaboration, our species dies.

Being on the same page means learning to utilize the brain's "collaboration neurons" to fully engage the create and interpersonal capabilities of our species. Birds Fly Together. Horses Run Together. Fish Swim Together. Humans Feel Together.
