Summer Rayne Oakes is a model-activist, environmentalist, spokesperson, and author of Style, Naturally: the savvy shopping guide to sustainable fashion and beauty (Chronicle 2009). A Cornell University graduate and Udall environmental scholar, Oakes' science based education and broader cultural interests have laid the foundation for a unique and multi-faceted career.

Summer is an on-air correspondent and the youngest member of the board of advisors for Discovery's Planet Green, and in 2010 will be hosting her own show for the network. As brand ambassador and sustainability strategist for both Portico Home and Spa, and Payless ShoeSource's zoe & zac line, she advises and consults on various aspects of design, production and practice. She works in partnership with the Mezimbite Forest Centre in Mozambique on sustainable development, design/personal care, and forest restoration programs. Committed to delivering the climate change message to corporate audiences and young people alike, Summer speaks at dozens of conferences, forums and universities around the world and maintains an active role in the youth climate change and the green jobs movement with groups like Energy Action and Power Shift.

As a partner in Group SJR, a strategic communications, market research and brand management firm, she consults on sustainability issues for clients like Alcoa Foundation, Yale University, RecycleBank, Condé Nast, Ogden Publications, Discovery Networks, Payless ShoeSource, Portico Home + Spas, and others.

As a leading trend-forecaster and expert on sustainable fashion and beauty, Summer regularly appears in top tier media outlets and has received accolades from The New York Times, Fox Business, CNN, Vanity Fair, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Allure and Business Week TV among others. She currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
