The name Cirque comes from the European entertainment culture. In 1874, Jules Verne built, designed and operated the largest circus in France called Cirque Municipal. Many Eastern block countries produced shows incorporating novelty and variety acts together with what Americans know as circus artistry into a single performance. These shows were presented on stages, in theatres and single ring tents. The productions developed throughout the years into some of the world's most prestigious and elaborate entertainment extravaganzas of modern times. The Moulin Rouge in Paris, the Wintergarten and Friedrichsbau in Germany and Prince Rainers's Circus in Monaco are just some of the famous venues in Europe's where Neil Goldberg's Cirque has performed.
In 1993, Neil Goldberg's creative philosophy made Cirque, Inc. the only American company of its kind producing this style of performance artistry for corporate and public theater. Influenced by Europe's cabarets, variety shows and theatrical productions, Cirque Inc.'s shows include many European elements, but is Americanized with its own Broadway theatrical flair.
How does Cirque Inc. acquire its world-class talent? The answer is simple. A dedicated creative team continuously travels the world attending as many unique festivals, shows and performance competitions as possible. The new talent search is what inspires and develops the skills and artistry showcased in Neil Goldberg's Cirque performances today. Cirque Inc. now receives 15 to 20 video tapes weekly from aspiring artists, all wanting to be a part of our performance phenomenon. The world's finest acrobats, gymnasts, singers and dancers make up the group of personalities known as Imaginaires, equivalent to the chorus of a show. These performers defy gravity as synchronized aerialists, mingle with the audience evoking laughter and participation and train with Cirque Inc. to weave performances together combining their skills and imagination under our artistic direction. You might also experience acrobatic actors on four legged stilts, choreographed contortionists, jugglers manipulating like machines and incomparable feats of strength presented with style and sophistication. Add a kaleidoscope of lighting designs, spectacular costumes and original musical scores and you will understand why Cirque Inc.'s productions have mass appeal with something for everyone, which is our true passion.
Using years of collective resources, Cirque Inc. and Cirque Productions were formed in 1993 to develop and offer entertaining inventiveness. The results have been astonishing stage productions that mesmerize through compelling and dramatic sights, sound and technology. To date, Cirque Productions has produced hundreds of theatrical experiences for corporate, private and public audiences worldwide.
