After opening to sold out crowds at the Toronto Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival, Robert Kenner's, Food, Inc. opened theatrically in the US in June '09. The film lifts the veil on our nations food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that is hidden from the American consumer. Entertainment Weekly wrote, "Food, Inc. is more than a terrific movie ...it's an important movie." The Los Angeles Times noted, "Food, Inc. does what good reporting does... it connects the dots.", and Variety remarked, "Food, Inc. ... does for the supermarket what 'Jaws' did for the beach". It is currently one of the top 20 documentaries of all time.

Kenner's previous film, Two Days in October, a PBS American Experience special, received the 2006 Peabody, the Emmy for exceptional merit in Non-Fiction Film-Making, and the Grierson (British Documentary). The Road to Memphis contains interviews with legendary B.B. King. Newsweek called it, "as fine a film ever made about American music" and "the unadulterated gem of the Scorsese Series."

Kenner directed several other films for American Experience including Influenza 1918, John Brown's Holy War, and War Letters. Prior to that Kenner directed numerous specials for National Geographic. Kenner's inspirational and emotional style drive Don't Say Goodbye, which was screened at the White House for President Clinton and Vice President Gore. Don't Say Goodbye received an Emmy, the Cable Ace, the Genesis, and the International Documentary Award.

Kenner's compassionate portrayal of real people brought him to the attention of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners for whom he directed four pieces for eBay. Robert's commercial for Hallmark is another illustration of his ability to integrate the ease of his interviews and touching remembrances into a story. The Hallmark "Fran" spot was named to Adweek's list of "Best Spots of the Year". Kenner's film for Hewlett Packard, Origins, detailed the history of the company and won two Telly Awards as well as the Aegis Award.
