He is the reigning National league "Iron Man" even more than a decade following
his retirement from baseball. Steve Garvey, the man who once played in 1,207
consecutive games, now utilizes the same leadership he once did with his
teammates to motivate audiences - and utilizes the drive that made him one of
the game's top first basemen - to run a successful management company.
Garvey spent eight years as the cornerstone of the Los Angeles Dodgers
"fabulous four" who led the Dodgers to a World Series title in 1981. During his
time with the San Diego Padres, Garvey became the only player in baseball
history to have an errorless season at first base. He is a ten-time All-Star
and a four-time Gold Glove winner, as well as being named MVP numerous times in
his career. However, to only mention Garvey's baseball accomplishments would be
leaving out a lifetime of achievements as a businessman, philanthropist,
volunteer and family man.
Garvey's experience in representing numerous products through the years and his
ability to provide corporations and businesses with knowledgeable consulting
inspired his founding of Garvey Management Group. Additionally, he has used his
extraordinary motivational speaking talents to present to groups, corporations,
conventions and universities around the world. His most popular topics include,
"Being the Best You Can Be," "Teamwork," "Leadership" and "Integrity in Life
and Business."
In addition, Steve has combined his passion for athletic excellence with his
interest in media by developing several made-for-television specials and
series. He also gives back to the community by volunteering for causes such as
Special Olympics, Juvenile Diabetes, The Starlight Foundation and ALS. He
succeeded Frank Sinatra as the National Campaign Chairman for the Multiple
Sclerosis Society. It is the dedication to these causes that has earned him
numerous awards, including the Lou Gehrig Award for his contribution to
Baseball and Society and Major League Baseball's highest honor for humanitarian
service, the Roberto Clemente Award.
