Joyce M. Coleman was raised in rural pre-civil rights Mississippi, where she
attended a one-room schoolhouse. She graduated summa cum laude from Alcorn
State University in Lorman, MS.
Among her many achievements, Joyce became the nation's first black female
officer and executive at a major airline, TWA, was named to New York City's
YWCA Academy of Women Achievers, received Career Focus Magazine's Eagle Award
and has been listed in numerous Who's Who registries.
Coleman's corporate management works include developing and implementing
immensely successful programs for corporations, universities, and other
organizations. Her work has consistently earned high marks from
internationally known third party audit companies and resulted in improved
service and lower costs. She has led Best Practices in Customer Service
conferences for a leading international training organization and was selected
by the International Airline Travel Association to present her customer service
strategies at a seminar at the Euro Disney facility in Paris. She has also
written numerous business articles, many of which have been published widely by
dot-com businesses. A recurrent theme in Coleman's writings is the strong
correlation between principled leadership and long-term success.
Coleman's counts among her major accomplishments developing and managing a
rock 'n' roll band, including a performance at the renowned Harley Davidson
club and I Love New York festival in New York City. It serves as a reminder
that dreams lead to reality.
Coleman is the author of the critically acclaimed book, "Soul Stirrings:
How Looking Back Gives Each Of Us The Freedom To Move Forward", and a
companion Study Guide for grades 4-12. She developed, produced and is currently
performing "Porch Wisdom", a series of one-woman shows based on her book.
Coleman's mission is to inspire others to achieve their dreams. She credits
her success to a strong work ethic based on family and faith and a "systems
approach" to problem solving. She advocates self-acceptance, perseverance and
continuous learning as a recipe for personal achievement.
