Biography:

In today's fast paced society, we're all faced with some degree of stress... Deadlines, budgets, an arrogant boss, a stubborn customer, an obstinate teenager at home, a bad hair day, a "no-hair" day-- for many of us a straight jacket may be nearer than we think. Whether the source of stress is at work or at home, the results can be costly. But the good news is-- laughter is the best medicine. And here to bring you the antidote to stress is Karyn Buxman! Karyn combines her skills as a health professional, storyteller, and humorist to wow audiences across the nation.

While in graduate school, Karyn Buxman found a way to combine her research with the one thing that enabled her to get through an entire day without losing her sanity: humor. Now one of the leading national experts on therapeutic humor, Karyn puts her humor studies to work through speaking, writing, and consulting. Faster than a speeding grocery cart, able to leap cubicles in a single bound, more powerful than a double dose of Extra Strength Tylenol, Karyn presents to people from coast to coast and abroad on how to put humor into their personal and professional lives.

For those left-brained people who need validation of Karyn Buxman's credibility, read on. CORPORATE PROGRAMS

-When Funny Means Money: Humor as a Serious Business Strategy [General Business] Do you think that humor and business don't go together? Think again! There's a good reason why American Express paid Jerry Seinfeld millions of dollars to star in their ads. They know that "While logic tells, emotion sells" and that humor is the quickest route to the emotions. In this keynote you will learn: How humor functions as a leadership tool, a sales aid, and a customer service strategy; how humor goes to the bottom line; the neuroscience behind how and why humor bypasses people's logic circuits, and influences their buying decisions through emotion; and specific strategies for utilizing humor in your business, and your life.

-I've Got One Nerve Left-and You're Standing on It [Stress Management] Expanding responsibilities, shrinking budgets, cranky coworkers, family demands, too much to do and not enough time to do it! Is it any wonder that we're all a little edgy? Find out how taking care of yourself can affect everyone's bottom line. Learn how to get through the toughest of days and still remain smiling. Discover how to survive and thrive in a world of change.

-Humor Makes Cents [Customer Service] Whether it's your internal or external customers, humor can be the tie that binds... or gags... Discover how humor can improve your customer service, sales and your bottom line by building rapport, increasing sense of trust, and improving negotiations. Learn how to avoid potential pitfalls: offending or "turning off" your customers using inappropriate types of humor.

HEALTHCARE PROGRAMS

-This Won't Hurt a Bit-And Other Fractured Truths in Healthcare [Healthcare entertainment/motivation] Sicker patients, irritable docs, cranky coworkers, days that are long on hours and short on resources. It's obvious that the state of health care today is no joke-but it just may be a laughing matter, if we understand that humor is frequently generated by painful circumstances. Karyn understands that those who can't learn to laugh in the midst of this highly stressful profession usually leave it. In a hysterically entertaining keynote, Karyn connects with fellow healthcare workers to help them get through the toughest of days and still remain smiling. A great opening or closing keynote.

-I'm The Leader-Which Way Did They Go? [Healthcare leadership] Successful people-in business, politics and life in general-have something in common: they understand that humor is an important trait for effective leaders. Ronald Reagan was a master at using humor on the world stage; the characters in M*A*S*H used humor to retain their sanity amid horrendous conditions; and your audience can learn how to use humor effectively in their daily work lives. Properly used, humor is a dynamic communication strategy that strengthens relationships, builds rapport, and enhances effectiveness. Karyn uses (hysterical) personal anecdotes, (solid) medical research, and (practical) tips to help your audience enhance their humor skills in the service of better leadership.

-From Burned Out to Fired Up: A Nurse's Survival Guide [Healthcare Motivation] Expanding responsibilities, shrinking budgets, obstinate docs, cranky coworkers, family demands, Joint Commission, HIPPA, too much to do and not enough time to do it! Is it any wonder that we're feeling burned out? Find out how being an advocate for yourself can affect everyone's bottom line. Learn how to get through the toughest of days and still remain smiling. Discover how to survive (and thrive).amidst today's healthcare crisis.

-It's Always Something [Survivors and support groups] "You've got cancer." Three words that strike fear in people's hearts and conjure up concerns of chemo, radiation, surgery, pain, nausea, stress, anxiety and fatigue-not to mention hair loss. And as (comedienne and cancer patient) Gilda Radner would say, "It's always something." Cancer survivors and their care givers need lots of tools in their arsenal to fight cancer-and humor is a surprisingly powerful tool. Speaker, humor researcher, nurse and cancer-survivor's-Mom Karyn Buxman will teach you how to twist your perceptions, play with your pain, and experience the gifts of humor and laughter.

WOMEN'S AND GENERAL AUDIENCE PROGRAMS

Business experts agree that humor is vital to a company's bottom line in areas such as customer service, marketing and sales. Relationship experts agree that one of the most highly sought traits, for those seeking long-term relationships, is a sense of humor. Medical experts have long known that having a sense of humor is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. This presentation is appropriate for any general session slot.

-Is The Noise in My Head Bothering You? [Motivational/Life Balance] Ever talk to yourself? Answer yourself? Argue with yourself? Self-talk can boost or blast one's self-esteem. It all depends on the way you think. Karyn has spent countless hours with some of the world's leading experts in the field of axiology or the study of how a person thinks. Through hysterical examples, Karyn shares insights on how to harness the self-talk for personal and professional success. This general session is appropriate for any general session slot, and is an especially great way to set the tone in an opening session or leave them with a great impression at the closing session.
