Pat O'Brien is the co-anchor of "Access Hollywood," the daily entertainment
newsmagazine show currently in its sixth season of providing the most
comprehensive coverage of entertainment news and personalities on television,
O'Brien joined the program in 1997, continuing a diverse broadcast journalism
career spanning 20 years in news, sports and entertainment.
Before joining "Access Hollywood," O'Brien was an anchor for CBS Sports, where
he worked since joining the network in 1981. At CBS, he anchored the network's
coverage of the world's premiere sporting events, including the Winter Olympics
Games, the Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA Finals, and the NCAA
Tournament and Final Four. In preparation for the 1996 and 2000 Olympics,
O'Brien hosted a series of syndicated television specials called "The Road to
Olympic Gold."
2001, O'Brien returned to the Olympics as host of NBC's late-night coverage of
the events in Salt Lake City. O'Brien interviewed athletes, celebrities and
fans from the Olympic Medals Plaza. O'Brien is also an accomplished writer.
He has penned a regular sports column for the New York Daily News, monthly
columns for Inside Sports and Live! Magazines and guest columns for TV Guide.
In 1998, his first book, "Talkin Sports": A B.S.-er's Guide," was published by
Villard Books. Currently, he serves as the Gadget Editor for Gear magazine and
writes an entertainment column for Ego magazine.
Prior to joining CBS in 1981, O'Brien held reporter positions at KNXT-TV (now
KCBS- TV) in Los Angeles, and WMAQ-TV in Chicago. He began his career as a
production assistant on "The Huntley-Brinkley Report."
O'Brien is a graduate of the University of South Dakota, and he studied
international economics at the Paul R. Nitze School of Advanced International
Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. He resides with his
wife and their son in Los Angeles.
