Written by Abigail Van Buren, also known as Jeanne Phillips, the most
popular advice column in the world was founded by her mother, Pauline Phillips,
in 1956.
Dear Abby commands a client list of about 1,400 newspapers worldwide, with a
daily readership of more than 110 million people, and is known for its uncommon
common sense and youthful perspective. She receives almost 10,000 letters and
e-mails each week, and her readers are surprisingly young, with 80% between the
ages of 18 and 49, and most of the other 20% younger than 18.
In addition to print, Jeanne appears regularly on news and entertainment
broadcast media, and on December 1, 2005 she did her first live radio broadcast
where she took questions from callers and gave live advice. Abby also created
OperationDearAbby.net, which worked with the Department of Defense to let
readers send more than 30 million heartfelt messages of support. Known for her
common sense, wit and charm, Dear Abby imparts a spirit of humanity and wisdom
that continues to influence, educate and entertain generation after generation
of readers.
